My friends, little bricolos at heart, often ask me what is the ideal content for a first aid toolbox. It is true that even when you have two left hands, it is always useful to have at home some basic tools that will help you in an emergency.
Some examples of typical emergencies
- Lay a shelf
- Assemble or disassemble furniture
- Install a wall or ceiling lamp
- Install a curtain rod
- Changing a shower hose
- A connection of ducts
- Attach frames or decorative elements to walls
It is true that in general, we want to get started and do some small work at home but we never or very rarely have the right equipment, the right tool, the screwdriver that goes well. It’s a shame to be slowed down in its momentum simply because of a missing ankle or a recalcitrant clamp, right?
So, over time, I’ve listed the contents of the perfect toolbox, the one that everyone should have in a corner of their shed, on a garage shelf, in a closet behind the shoe box and household products.
The essential tools
- A screwdriver with wood, metal and concrete bits
- A hammer
- A set of flat head and cross-head screwdrivers
- One metre
- A level
- A roll of orange PVC adhesive
- A cutting pliers
- A set of adjustable wrenches
- A box of screws
- A box of nails
- A box of wood and concrete pegs
The list is not exhaustive of course, but it is a good start. These tools should allow you to deal with the small hassles that can be faced in a house or apartment. Similarly, these tools will allow you to make the first adjustments in case of moving in.
Orange PVC adhesive, your ally
Do you find that PVC adhesive denotes in this list? You do not see its interest? And yet, believe in my experience, orange adhesive is useful in many situations. This is a real asset when it comes to connecting pipes or ducts. Waterproof and especially ultra resistant, it resists temperature variations and can therefore be taped without problems on outdoor installations. No risk of it taking off so soon!
Moreover, proof of its usefulness, orange PVC adhesive is used by all building professionals. It is an essential star of construction sites: you will find it at a very affordable price in all department stores in the DIY department or in specialized stores.
Ok, I admit, it’s a bit of a hobby of mine when it comes to DIY, but what do you want, this adhesive tape is used as well to connect as to securely close packages, repair something, hide an area during painting or retouching work, … etc. Multifunctional what, so we love it!
